About Fahm

Fahm (فهم, "understanding") helps a khutbah reach everyone in the room. The imam speaks Arabic into a phone or laptop microphone, and each listener reads along in their own language on their own phone. There is no app to install, just a code to scan.

How it works

As the imam speaks, his words are carried into English, German, Urdu, Turkish and Russian within moments. Listeners choose their language once, and the captions keep flowing for the rest of the khutbah. The same captions can also be shown on a screen in the mosque hall.

Why we built it

Every Friday, mosques welcome visitors, new Muslims, and guests who do not yet speak Arabic. Fahm exists so the khutbah is understood by everyone present, not only by those who already speak the language it is given in.
